Thailand Expat Life: Visa Run to Vientiane
I usually go to Singapore to get a 60-day tourist visa, but the last time I went, they refused to give me a 60-day visa, because I open e-ticket back to Canada. They now want a confirmed ticket and will not accept an open ticket. That's stupid if you ask me. I told the lady at the desk , that if the violence in Bangkok is bad, I can call Air Canada and on my way the next day, so an open ticket is much better than a ticket for a specific date. No Dice. So I had to fly back to Bangkok and got the usual 30-day entry at the airport. The entire trip cost me 18 000 baht, including hotels, flights, meals, taxis, etc. What a waste.

Recommended retail prices. List Price:. EUR 23.54 Price: EUR 23.54 I have a couple of visa runs by bus to Cambodia, and find that a pain in the butt, because you only 14 days and then to have to do it again, and it costs 2000 baht each time.
So this time I signed the bus to Vientiane.
I must say that the service was excellent from visa-run companies, by bus (40 seater) was full, and it was the same comfortable bus that sets them up for Cambodia, with the same driver. The driver is relatively conservative, seems to be mindful of the fact he's lost 40 farangs on board, and is as careful a driver as you want it.
The bus left PB Tower on Sukhumvit Soi 71 exactly at 8:30 clock.
There was a break for about an hour later to pee in a service center, and then 2 hours later, and so on, all night long. This gave the driver the chance to be a bit of what I thought was a good idea to relax.
. While my seat mate happily snored the night, I sat bleary eyes, shifting in my seat periodically as my bum got sore. I appreciated the rest breaks as well.
a DVD movie was played at the beginning of the trip, but after it was finished it was after 11 clock, so no more movies were shown.
We arrived early at the border before 6:30 clock. I saw the sun come up. We had to sit for a while, until the border office opened, and then a bus all the ladies lost our passports processed. Previously, she had collected on the bus.
After he made Thailand stamped
we have 3 mini-buses (vans) over the bridge (Mekong River) into Laos, where we waited again, while the lady got our passports processed by Lao immigration. In less than an hour, we have the mini-buses into Vientiane and came to the streets of the Thai embassy around 7:30 or 7.40. There were already at least 200 people lined along the sidewalk, and it was hot.
The embassy gates opened about 08.15 clock, and we all filed into the embassy compound. It was a ticket machine at the front, and we sat down the queue.
However, the former lady rang our visa runs us up the stairs into an air conditioned area and handed over low-numbered cards from the vending machine. Our numbers started around 95, while the people were given tickets at the vending machine counted more than 350. So I guess they had some contact in Vientiane who stood at the top of the line at the gates at the early hour, and then the tickets to her when she arrived an hour or more later.
The ticket numbers were called over the public address system both in Thai and English, and said again: "ticket number 37, please proceed to counter number 2".
I soon realized that there was no pause in the number legend, the announcements came non-stop, and soon reached the 80s. We all rushed down the stairs to the counter and were there when our numbers came. But the numbers only on roll, held by. Our lady collected our passports and tickets, and lined them all up on the counter, and then told us to wait to go to the other building.
There we were, there were four more counters, numbered 3 through 6, but only one, counter 4 was active, and they were waiting at least 100 people sitting on chairs. The waiting room was also air-conditioned.
Again, the numbers called but this time there was big gaps in between, and there was a considerable pause after each number was called. If a number was called, was a person up to 4 meters, you will receive a written confirmation, and then exit stage left.
gave it a 5 or 6 minutes late. That was when I saw print, that the Thai lady was behind the counter and then the division of revenue. Of course, the passports and other building applications in the process, stepped into a computer, and then the receipt was printed in this building at counter 4.
My number was called, I went to the counter, I got the receipt and leave. The guy next to me had a lower figure, but his number was not called, he got a little upset and went to the counter where the lady told him to wait.
I went to the exit, and there was my visa run lady collecting the receipts, and then ring us on one of the vans. My receipt had shown "60 days Tourist Visa double-entry" and "Fee: $ 0", so I was happy.
The van took us to a local restaurant where we had a Thai / Lao food breakfast or brunch of fried rice and whatever. This was free, paid for by the visa run company, but soft drinks were 20 baht extra.
In Laos, you can be replaced Lao kip, Thai baht and U.S. dollars. If you pay in Thai baht, you will receive change in Thai Baht. If you pay in U.S. dollars, you get change in Lao kip, which, like Cambodian currency is very high denominations and no value. A Pepsi was 20 baht, which was reasonable, but not diet drinks were available. By the way, ATMs dispense only in Laos Lao kip.
After brunch, we were greeted by van der hotels , which are later incorporated entirely acceptable, perhaps second 5 stars. There was no pool, just a room, but there was a large room, bathroom, cable or satellite TV with many Thai, Lao, and some a couple of movie channels including HBO and Star Movies.
The bathroom was typical Thai style, with no shower or tub, shower and head to the wall. There was a flash water heater that worked, and the toilet was. The towels were large, red, fluffy, and of course new.
I had to pay an extra 200 baht at the front desk for a private room. The visa fee is 5,000 baht includes a shared room (2 per room). The fee is 5 to 6000 baht, after the free tourist visa promotion ends Increase in June.
In bed from 01.00 clock in the afternoon
I slept for several hours, got up, showered, watched a movie, then went in search of dinner. I walked up and down the main road nearby, but it was not appealing. But had the office complex located 20 meters from the hotel restaurant, so I went and found in 5 other farangs from the visa requirement to run well there. The food was good, the prices were not expensive, and I could pay with Thai baht. The young lady behind the counter was probably the most beautiful girl I've ever seen set, and I'm from and to Thailand for 20 years. She made me wish I were 25 again.
The next day I had breakfast at the same restaurant, and then around 1PM, we piled into the vans again and were taken to the border. There are a lot of "duty free" shops at the border. We waited about 45 minutes or so, and then the visa run lady showed up, and we all went through the immigration of the Laotian border people looking at us, not about our passports, which the visa run lady could be seen.
, Then it was back in the bus for the return trip. Within an hour we stopped at a restaurant where we have a Thai meal, again free, non-alcoholic drinks are extra, 20 baht.
The return trip was much faster, as several DVD movies were played, which occupies the time and spirit.
We arrived back in Bangkok at 01.30 clock. You can get everywhere cleared along the route, some leave at Ramkhamhaeng. I waited until the end, the Ekamai BTS station was right next to where I found out quickly that the BTS is closed. An 80 baht taxi ride later I was back home.
I would do it again? Definitely yes. The whole process was pretty much automatic. The company took care of everything. You have to book a flight in advance, though. One farang apparently called to find out the price and time, showed up and was angry that there is no place for him. But he had not made a reservation that was not his name or phone number is, then, no luck. Of course, he had left it until the last day of his visa, he would have to leave the next day somehow and pay the fee of 500 baht cover.
To summarize: you leave at 8:30 PM, spend a night on the bus. Then there is half a day waiting around, with brunch included. Check in at the hotel, sleep a little, or if you have the stamina, explore Vientiane. Not much there, but. Eat, sleep one night in the hotel. The next day, to wait for a morning or visit Vientiane, then bus to Bangkok, arriving about 1:30 Clock.
If you want to do yourself, the company I was "Quick Thai Visa Run", 6 Floor, PB Tower, Sukhumvit Soi used 71st The contact is Phillip, who speaks perfect English 02-713-2498 (office hours) or 09-0245-255 (24 hours). They have a website at www. ThaiVisaRun. com, but it was not updated for a while, and only mentions their Cambodia run, not walk to Laos.

Visa Travel to Laos
If you intend to stay in Thailand a little longer then we can not avoid the need to make visa. This can be a tourist visa which is valid for 60 days then. To issue such a tourist visa, you have to go to a Thai consulate abroad.
I have to put a trip to Laos. This is a little run through the experience as a journey. First, I drove the car to the border with Laos. Here I have visited the border town of Mukdahan in Thailand, because in the Grenzstad Savannakhet in Laos there is a Thai consulate can issue a tourist visa what.
The car we have placed at the border in Thailand on a guarded parking lot, which is very good. First of all we have left the country from Thailand, which went relatively smoothly. The handling was quick and we got the exit stamp. Then we had to wait for a bus that we can go over the bridge to Lao border, and perceives a full half hour, because Laos has a special feature directly in Savannakhet, there is a casino and is visited daily by fervent Thais, and have been preferable to the bus.
After we were then driven by bus across the bridge we had to first make a Lao visa, ok I know, but Lao visa that has become more expensive, they charge 1500 baht all now, the only thing that went well, it is fast, you got the Lao Vium immediately in the passport, but also had to fill out a form and submit a passport photo.
Now I'm great, I look at Laos visa to Savannakhet and a hotel, a quick check, the Laos, but no, here said another 40 baht stamp money, or great? I paid and walked across the border. More progress on staying in Savannakhet .
